Mels Bowl sign stands again
San Jose Mercury News
The "Mels Bowl" sign that was taken down during demolition of the popular bowling alley at 2580 El Camino Real in Redwood City to make way for a 141-unit apartment complex has popped up again. The sign now stands on the Redwood City Car Wash site two miles down the road at 215 El Camino Real. SummerHill Apartment Communities had promised the city it would preserve the neon sign, which an environmental impact determined has historic merit. The developer expects to finish building the apartments this summer and begin renting them in September.
